Heidelberg has confirmed (again!) that they will be moving into the digital print market by the end of this year. However the speculation continues in regards to, who these possible digital partners will be. There has been much speculation within the print world involving some big players, one being Kodak. Of course the launch of their NexPress this year would have been a big part in this. But will it be them? To me Kodak defiantly seem to be moving forward with digital print and pushing the line between Litho and Digital printing which is only going to benifit the customer.

Im not an expert by any means on this subject, but coming from a sales point of view i always think how would this effect customers. If Heidelberg are planning to sell digital presses in 170 countries they obviously need to be ready for the support that the perspective buyers will need.

“We want to supply [the machines], service and consumables and we are currently in the evaluation stage to talk to several possible partners, who have an attractive product portfolio and for whom Heidelberg is attractive,” said chief executive Bernhard Schreier.

It can only be a good move, a great Lithographic Machine brand, i think will only improve the quality and reliability of digital presses.

My presentation to Chris MartinAfter securing another print job from Norwich City football Club, I received an email asking if I would like to help with the presentation of the “Player of the Month Award” before the Southampton game? This was a thank you from Norwich City, and of course being a life long City fan following them home and away I just had to say “yes I would love to help, it would be a great honour”. On the day we met Rob at the Directors entrance at Carrow road who took us through to the tunnel area of the ground, it was here that we found out who had won the award. At 2.50pm we were lead out to the edge of the pitch and given the trophy to present to the player. Once lined up Chris Martin came walking towards us to collect his award, this was the second award for him in a week as he also picked up the Coca-Cola League Young Player of the Month for January. After the presentation we took our seats for the match, unfortunately this wasn’t as successful as we had hoped as Norwich when down 0-2. To end the day we headed for The Gunn Club to meet Rob and his colleagues to watch the man of match presentation.

Let’s hope for better results for the rest of the season including Blackwell Print’s final corporate membership game against Leeds United which could be a title decider.

After taking on the  Tharstern MIS training and spending time re-writing the system for us so we can be more efficient with our estimating and more accurate with the works figures, I am now taking on Sage 50 Accounts. The Sage 50 Accounts training package I have chosen to take is a self study course that you have six months to complete. There are three stages to the course that have to be completed before entering an online exam to gain Sage certification that recognises that you are experienced in Sage 50 Accounts. All of the workbooks concentrate on four areas, the first one starts with the Installation and Setup before moving on to Entering Opening Balances, Working with day-to-day transactions and Housekeeping, Diary and Corrections. Stage two starts with Credit Control before continuing with Month End, Reporting, VAT Returns and Year End then Management Information. The final stage, Stage three begins with Dealing with Stock and Order Processing, this is followed by Invoicing and Project Costing, Bill of Materials, Stock Pricing and Period End and ends with Period routines, Quotes / Pro-formas and Foreign Trader.

We are pleased to be exhibiting at the Chambers’ networking event in March. This will be a great opportunity to meet many existing customers and meet some new ones. We will be happy to answer any questions about print and production. Happy to offer helpful hints and topical tips on how to get the nest from your print to those embarking on brand new print and marketing projects.

If you are attending and have not yet arranged your marketing material, from leaflets to an exhibition stand, Blackwell Print and Marketing can help.

This year Tharstern will be showing more capabilities of their T4 system at Ipex 2010 . T4 is the latest and most advanced module of Tharstern’s Management Information System (MIS). We have attended a few demonstrations of the T4 system and have had a consultant visit our company to show more developments of the system. At the moment we are using T3 which is a good version but with the continued development from Tharstern, T4 is way ahead. Blackwell Print and Marketing are working closely with Tharstern to create a Management Information System (MIS) that works well for us, the customer and will also help us do our bit for the environment. Tharstern is a powerful tool for printers and is being used worldwide. You can visit The Tharstern stand at Ipex by going to 09-F319.

Yesterday morning at a business breakfast networking meeting I happened to be discussing with a new contact the merits of using a good design agency. At this point I had yet to see his own marketing literature. The thrust of my conversation was this; there is more to creating a good piece of marketing material than impressive design. There are with a doubt many talented and competent graphic designers out there and I am pleased to say we deal with many. However some end users are not so lucky and although my breakfast contact had possibly not even noticed what I saw straight away, the facts remains the same. The job in question was displaying signs of ink rub throughout, with heavy solids backing up clean space – not generally a good idea. Unless of course the correct combination of paper and finish have been considered given the end results required. Over all it was a nice job, sadly let down in the execution. In this case the designer will blame the printer and printer the designer, when actually it is very likely a combination of the two.

At Blackwell Print & Marketing we pride ourselves in the effort and lengths we will go to, to avoid these sort of problems. While perfection is asking a little much of anyone, what we can do is talk, evaluate and determine the best result for any given job, with both the designer and the customer. That is the difference between one printer and another, not how much they charge. So as people are so fond of saying, ‘you pays your money’!

Good luck!

Ricoh in Light Production

Ahead of Ipex in May, all the leading manufacturers are working away to take the market by storm, and Ricoh are no different. It was only recently they dipped their toes in the Heavy Production Print environment with the Pro c900 and Pro c900S models, one of which we have at Blackwell Print & Marketing. But now they’ve obviously noticed a requirement for a similar machine just with light duty cycles and one that runs slightly slower. Bring on the Pro C720 and the Pro C720S!

The manufacturer is pitching the presses at commercial printers making their debut into the digital arena, as well as in-house print plants and print-on-demand businesses. Continue reading »

Ricoh launch new Products

It’s been an action packed few weeks for Ricoh, no doubt busily preparing for Ipex in May. Just one of the recent development is the launch of their new Web-to-Print and Colour Management Software.

Products include the NowPrint JDF-ready scaleable web-to-print system, available as software-as-a-service, and the Ready4Print Colour Server automated colour management system delivering consistent colour to a defined standard (industry-wide or customer-defined). Ipex will also be the first outing for Ricoh’s new light-production colour digital presses, the C720 and C720S, both Fogra-certified to ISO 12647. Ricoh will also introduce the Pro 1357 and 1357EX monochrome devices for the transactional market.
